Gala Dinner - Melbourne Museum
The soaring ceilings of The Main Foyer
and The Walk,
are set in front of the dramatic living Forest Gallery, which features a misty fern gully with a waterfall. Here you will see living specimens of the iconic Australian Tree Fern, insects and birds.
Getting to the museum.
The museum is located a a pleasant 15 minute walk from the Central Business District. From the hotel we suggest you cross the river and then walk up the Swanston St Mall through the city square to the historic Melbourne Town Hall. At Collins St, turn right and walk up through the delightful 'Paris End" past elegant Victorian buildings culminating in the ornate gold-rush era Old Treasury buildings. Here we turn left into Spring St and walk past the historic grandeur of the Windsor Hotel and the magnificence of the state houses of parliament. We then veer right up Nicholson Street and cross through the Carlton Gardens past the ornate Exhibition Buildings of 1888 to the modern Museum.
For those who are slightly less energetic, you can catch the free maroon 'city circle' tram east along Flinders St, and then stay on board as it turns north along Spring St, alighting at the corner of Nicholson and Victoria Streets.
